If you want to make life easy for hacker, just set your password to 12345.
That’s apparently what a lot of people do, according to NordPass, which recently analyzed information leaked in data breaches to determine the 20 most commonly used passwords for the year.
The most popular passwords all contain easy-to-guess number combinations, like the already mentioned 12345, as well as 111111 and 123321. Another obvious one – the word “password” – remains popular too, with more than 830,000 people using it last year.
“Most people prefer to use weak passwords rather than trying to remember long, complex ones,” said Chad Hammond, a security expert at NordPass. “It also usually means they use the same one for all their accounts. And if one of them ends up in a breach, all other accounts get compromised too.”
Here is the NordPass list of 20 most popular passwords.
